'Chocolate Flower' or 'Chocolate Scented Daisy' (ber-land-dee-AIR-ah: lie-RAY-tah) Asteraceae:
Yellow daisy like flowers that have scented stamens. The flower petals have reddish undersides. Plants grow 18 inches (18 in = 45.7 cm) tall and after a few years grow 2 feet (2 ft = 61 cm) wide. The first year they flower around 8 inches (8 in = 20.3 cm) tall and grow about 6 inches (6 in = 15.2 cm) wide. Best used as an edging or mass planted in well draining soils in full sun. The scent is strongest at night and in the early morning. Self seeds on open ground. Seeds are about 1/4an inch long and rounded in shape and are enclosed in a tan colored covering.

Dry winter mulch helps over-winter plants in the north. This species is native from Kansas and Colorado to Arizona, New Mexico, West Texas and northern Mexico were it flowers year round. Conditioned seed, germination in 1 to 3 weeks at 65F (65 °F = 18.3 °C).
