'Lady's Mantle' (al-keh-MILL-uh: e-rith-ro-Po-da) ROSACEAE.

This is a smaller species growing about 6' tall with smaller leaves. Plants grow in clumps about 8' wide. Leaves are rounded and have 7-9 shallow lobes that have sharp teeth and are hairy. Leaves have a bluish-green color and have yellowish green flowers. This plant blooms from late spring through late summer. Plants are useful for the rock garden or along a stone path providing a softer look to those plants that are bold and overly showy. Develops a reddish color in the fall. Makes a nice ground cover too. Use in moist semi-shade to shade. I like the look of the clumps in the spring as the plants put forth their new foliage. Can self sow if really happy. Divide in spring or late summer. Native from Eastern Europe to the Caucasus.

Zones 3-7.

Lady Mantel Rosaceae:

Leaves yellowish-medium green and flowers a chartreuse color. Attractive fan shaped leaves with longer flower stems that are stronger than most selections, making them better for cutting than the others. This strain produces plants that flower more uniformly in color and timing. Nice ornamental foliage and great for landscaping and mixed borders.

Zones 4-8.

200 seeds.

  Alchemilla mollis 'Thriller'
Code: AMT
Price: $2.20

'Lady's Mantle'

Bright chartreuse yellow flowers in the spring on top of fan shaped leaves. This is an attractive plant that has, softly hairy (giving the leaves a mellow silver cast, making them look very attractive in the morning with dew on them), rounded, wavy-edged leaves, and large sprays of greenish-yellow flowers that are good for cutting. A good border plant and useful for a ground cover in shady positions. Plants grow to about 18 inches tall when in full flower. When not in bloom the clumps are 6 to 9 inches tall.

Zones 4-9. Surface sow, light needed for best results, keep at 70 F. Germination in 2-3 weeks. Should be germinated and grown at temps no higher than F 75 (60-70F being ideal).

100 seeds.

  Alchemilla saxatilis
Code: AL10-A7
Price: $2.00

Quantity in Basket: none

Much like Alchemilla alpina, with yellow colored flowers on stems reaching 8 inches tall. The many small flowers in cloud like clusters are produced over low growing attractive foliage. Nice ground cover that is easier to grow under warm conditions than A. alpina.

Zones 4-8. Sow at 65ºF for 3 weeks then move to 23-38F for 5 weeks, Return to 65ºF were germination will occur in two weeks. Light helps germination so surface sow.
