'Ozark Blue-Star' or 'Shining Blue Star' (am-Soh-NEE-uh: il-LUS-tris) Apocynaceae:

Light blue flowers. Leathery textured leaves that turn a golden-yellow in the fall. Blooms in late spring and grow 3 to 4 feet tall. Full sun in moisture retentive soils that are well draining or light shade. Mid spring blooming.

Zones(4)5-8. Soak seeds for three days in warm water, changing the water every 12 hours with fresh water. Start with 6 weeks at 39ºF, then move to 55ºF, germination. erratic, over many months. I sowed ten seeds and 65 days later three seeds germinated the same day, the others were spread out over another three weeks.

'Blue Star' or 'Blue Dogbane'

Plants grow 2 to 3 feet tall with medium green leaves that are long and egg shaped with a slight scalloped cup shape, the clump forming plants have blue colored flower clusters produced in late spring. The flowers are long tubes that end with five somewhat star shaped arrangement of petals.

Native from the Eastern USA were it is found growing on moist but well-drained fertile soils in full sun to partial shade in moist open woods, along stream banks and moist meadows.
