In mid to late spring plants have short flowering stems that grow 4 to 6 inches tall with small clusters of wine red colored flowers. As the flowers age they fade to a pink color. The flower clusters are full and rounded in shape with the stamens upraised above - flowers look like fuzzy balls with dots floating just of the surface. Plants form a nice ground cover with a slowly spreading habit in rich gravelly soils in full sun to part shade. Plants are dioecious meaning they are either female or male.
