Plants grow 24' tall and produce many clusters of claw shaped flowers that are loved very much by butterflies. Each plant has a different shade of red, orange and yellow flowers. When done flowering plants produce long pods of seeds. With an early sowing will bloom the first year in about 12 weeks, but best flowering occurs after three years of growth, long lived plants once established. Best in well draining soils in full sun - will grow well even in poor soils as long as they are not wet for any length of time. Will flower well in part shade. Nice for cutting.

                Zones 4-9

Soak seeds in hot water for 2 days, changing the water every 12 hours with fresh water, Surface sow- light helps with germination. Seed germination in one to three weeks at F. 70.

Plants produce long, white taproots; and once established are best left alone. If one plans on transplanting them, the move should be done while the plants are one or two years old. In the spring the new growth is late to come out of the ground, so be careful about planting anything new on top of their location, or in working the soil around there placement. Plants can be started in the winter and grown under 24 hour lights, use a deep pot (over 6 inches deep) and do not over water. You can start about 30 plants in a 6x6 inch pot, transplant out in mid spring after any danger of a hard frost. Sometimes plants will go dormant later in the year, but will start growing again the next spring.

Soak seeds in hot water for 36 hours, changing the water with fresh water after 12 hours, Surface sow, light needed for best germination in 1-3 weeks at F 75. If little germination after 4 weeks use four weeks in the fridge.

                                          Swamp Milkweed

Nice form with dark to light pink lavender flowers with a few white plants mixed in too. Fragrant flowers loved by butterflies. Easy to grow from seed and long lived plants for the border garden or pond planting. Loved by butterflies and long blooming in midsummer. Plants grow 3 to 4 feet tall and do best in full sun but they grow and flower well in a good amount of shade too. Moisture loving species that grows in damp to wet soils but growing nicely in average garden soil also. Plants grow 4 feet tall and in cultivation will have as many as 12 stems with the tops covered with umbels of flowers. Should produce a good number of nice dark flowering plants too. Use around ponds, lakes, and low ground or in the garden. Do not let the Monarch Butterflies have their way with this plant-they love it and will lay their eggs on it and the caterpillars will eat away all the leaves. Attractive in the garden, give the plants some light shade during the hottest part of the day and they will grow in dry soils as long as the soils are deep and they can spread out their root system. In the spring one should be careful to not remove the plants during spring planting, since the emergence of new shoots is late and occurs after most all other plants have come out of the ground.

Grows from 4 to 10 inches tall and blooms in early to late spring. Cutting back the plants as they start to finish blooming will promote rebloom and extend the blooming period in to early summer. Use in full sun to light shade in well draining soils in a rock garden or even on a rock wall. Does well in sandy soils and not so well on heavy clay soils. After blooming cut plants back to promote a thick mat of foliage that is useful as a ground cover. Plants do not like to be overwhelmed by larger neighbors or hot muggy weather. Nice in between paving stones too.

Zones (3)4-8. But needs some protection in zone 4 from moisture and freeze thaw cycles. Plants will bloom the second year.

This lot is not seed from our local large form so plants will be different from the past seed offerings of this species - growing about 2 to 2.5 feet tall.

Nice cut flowers or plant where you want some color for a long time during the hottest parts of the summer. Plants do very well in poor soils and will self seed on bare ground. Not that good in really humid areas. Do not fertilize too much. Otherwise, you will end up with a very large mat of foliage and few flowers. I allow this plant to self-sow around the yard and garden and am always pleased with the results.

Angelica gigas has dark green foliage that is deeply cut. Plants grow 3 to 4.5 feet tall. Flowers look like red-maroon clubs as they form. Blooms in August and September. Plants have large attractive compound leaves. Grow in moisture retentive soils in part shade, dry soil produces smaller plants with less attractive foliage and less impressive flowers umbels. Deer do not eat Angelica gigas and some people are sensitive to its sap, which can produce a mild burning sensation. Will flower the second year if the seeds germinate in spring and early summer, plants tend to be monocarpic and die after seed formation. Cut spent flowers before seeds begin to form to keep plants alive, or allow to self-seed. For extra flower production do not allow the plants to bloom for two or three years. Insects love the flowers, and ours are always full of various native bees and butterflies.

Keep medium moist at all times but not wet. Sometimes this seed needs two cold periods. Each lasting 6 weeks, with a 4-week warm period before each cold period. Fresh seed germinates the quickest with older seed needing the two different cold periods to break down dormancy. Sow in early spring for germination in a few weeks, surface sow the seeds, light needed for best results.

The plants have foliage with good compact habit with widely branching stems and many gentian blue, forget-me-not-like flowers. Grow in nitrogen poor soils with good drainage in full sun to part shade. Rich moist soils will produce very large bushy plants that bloom less and are more likely to die over winter (winter soils should be dry, not wet). Large seeds, easy to grow, will bloom the secound year.

This seed will give a mix of colors including apricot, melon to salmon-pink, cerise and many different reds from light too deep. The colors are supposed to be brighter than the other mix offered. This selection produces some great cut flowers for vases. Plants become dense and spreading when established in the landscape, they can also be grown as a pot plant in a cool green house or sun room in colder climates. 'Peruvian Lily' will do best in a sunny exposure in cooler locations or part shade where it is hot. They should be given deep, humus rich, moisture retentive soils that have good drainage. Alstroemerias are showy of perennials, with large spectacular, brightly streaked flowers. Very nice when planted in groups along a path or grouped in a sheltered sunny border. They have a long flowering period throughout summer. In colder regions plant them at the base of a south facing wall. Plants will bloom the second or third year after sowing but if grown well, some blooming the first year.

Germination in 2-30 weeks at F 55. Not difficult to grow from seed, but the seeds can take a while to start germination. Soaking in hot water for 24 hours helps. Use a small glass with hot tap water, drop the seeds in and allow the water to cool, replace the water every 8 hours with fresh hot water.

When the plants go dormant they can be stored over winter in peat moss or vermiculite. When stored the area should be very cool, near freezing to 39F. Do not permit the bulbs to dry out over winter but do not store them damp, check the bulbs occasionally and mist them with water if they start to dry. Mature plants can be divided but it is a task involving some labor, the bulbs should be planted shallowly and mulched with a layer of organics but the top area were the bulb top is, should not be covered.

The foliage has a nice twist to it and plants work well in the perennial border or the rock garden, easy to grow and long lived. Flowers are great for cutting. Plants bloom in early to mid summer over a 3-4 week period. Does well in most soils. This Allium stays attractive all growing season; the foliage is still lush in late summer. Many plants in this genus go summer dormant at flowering or just before, but not this species. Mixes well with Coreopsis and Sedum'. Plants will grow into nice clumps that can be divided every few years, they will also self sow a little if the ground is open but not in a weedy way. Clump forming plants with iris-like rhizomes (a rhizomatous onion).

The white colored, many star-shaped flower with green centers are upright facing, arranged into moderately dense umbels. The narrow clusters of flowers are up to 2 inches wide. Carefree, drought tolerant and attractive in the garden, where happy will self seed but for us it has not been overly aggressive. Flowers in early summer, grow in full sun, over a few years each plant will grow into a dense clump and put on a nice display in the garden. The seeds are large and easy to sow, and seedlings will bloom the second or third year.

Plants bloom in ten weeks from sowing and have strongly anise-scented foliage. Agastache scrophulariifolia 'Blue Licorice' has blue flowers which are produced in mid summer into late fall. The long flower spikes are 6 to 8 inches in lenght and densely packed with good sized flowers. Plants grow 3-4 feet tall and bloom for many weeks from mid summer to late summer with some flowers produced into late fall, the plants look nice even after done flowering and if dead-headed they will flower all fall but produce shorter spikes. Bushy plants with nice dense form and lots of spikes, loved by bees and the scent of the foliage is somewhat intoxicating. Full sun-in well drained soils but will grow well in part shade too. Blooms the first year, the blue color is darkest during cool weather, so a sowing in late spring will produce attractive darker blue blooming plants in late summer and fall.

Plants grow 5-6 feet tall and can be used in open woodlands to full sun with moisture retentive soils that drain well. Useful in the perennial border, native wildflower area, woodland or butterfly gardens - best effect planted in large groups with plants spaced-out 18 inches apart, will self seed on open ground. Not the showiest bloomer, but loved by a diverse group of insects that will provide weeks of entertainment and if you like to take pictures of insects - this plant like most of the hardy Agastache, is indispensable. The dried stems in the winter are attractive. Started in late winter, plants will bloom the first year. Easy to grow and transplant, seedlings are large enough to plant out into the garden in 5 to 8 weeks after germination. Can also be sown directly on bare ground in late winter/early spring while the ground is still cold with good results.

Can be used to make a scented potpourri. Of all the different Agastache that I have grown -- this selection produces, to me, the best scents, which are on the more sweet' side, instead of the 'pungent.' Plants grow 30-40 inches tall with strongly upright stems and bloom for an extended time in summer and fall. Great plants for growing in sun or half shade. I like the nice upright form of these plants. Good cut flowers too. Easy and blooms the first year, best color when the it cool out, so a good choice for sowing in early summer for late summer and fall blooming. This selection is very hardy and has grown for me many years in my zone four garden.

Plants do well on most any soil including heavy clay. Plants are drought tolerant. The multi-stemmed clumps produce good cutting material and dead heading produces another flush of blooms all along the stems. Plants self seed around but not to the point of becoming weedy. They look nice coming up in amongst our Hosta and stray plants are easy to pull out of the ground when only a year or two old. Pinch back the top of the plant in early July to promote a more compact habit and heavy branching.

Does very well in the perennial border (best with light mulch over winter). The rest of us can grow this plant as a pot plant or in a green house. Plants are bulbous and normally bloom in July and August and needs full sun to thrive. During the winter pots should be brought inside and placed in a very bright window. Tall stems toped with umbels of blue flowers over the sword like smooth green leaves. A graceful plant that prefers moist but well draining soils and is said to bloom better as they become more crowded, so do not divide unless you need to (when the pot begins to break). This medium blue selection makes a great cut flower and will bloom in two or three years from seed.

After blooming from late spring into late summer plants go dormant leaving nothing above ground except the tall stems with green then brown, small ball shaped seed capsules. Cut them off to prevent self-seeding. Plants do not spread under ground very much, but any small piece left in the ground after digging can grow into a new plant. Best in part shade in moisture retentive but well draining soils. People sometimes confuse this attractive plant with a look alike thug, Campanula rapunculoides, which spreads by way of under ground runners.

A good garden subject for its attractive bell shaped flowers in mid summer. The flowers are charming little bells resembling a Campanula. To me it is one of those plants that are attractive in a dainty sort of way; the flowers are produced later in summer. The foliage is mostly basil with small-reduced leaves on the stems and a greenish-yellow color. Plant in full sun in moister retentive soil that are well draining or in light shade. Plants bloom in late summer and should bloom the second year. Adenophora bulleyana produces a thick-fleshy white root and once established does not like to be disturbed.

Surface sow and germinate the seeds around F45-50, Higher temps will produce poorer results. Germination is irregular, occurring over a period of 1-8 weeks. A good subject to sow in late winter out and keep the tray outside for germination in spring while the soil medium is still cool.

Nice upright growing plants with spikes of many showy flowers lend some nice vertical effect to the semi shady garden or in full sun where soils are moisture retentive. To me the foliage is very attractive in the spring as the plants emerge out of the ground; the leaves are very lacy and cut, shaped somewhat like a hand. Plants like cool moist well-drained soils.

Sow in a bag with moist seed mix and keep at 70F (70 F = 21.1 C) for three weeks, then place in a cold fridge for four weeks, move to F55 where germination will occur in 1-4 weeks. Light helps with germination. Plants will flower the third year. A good candidate for sowing in the fall or early winter and keeping outside for osculation temperature and germination in spring.

The thin stems grow 6 to 10 feet long, and branch to produce many, mostly upright inflorescences along their length. The green leaves are deeply cut with 3 to 5 lobes. Blooms in late summer and autumn with steel blue to violet colored flowers, with darker veining. Grow in part shade or full sun in soils that are well draining but have consistent moisture during the growing season. Situate the plants under a large shrub or a many branched small tree growing in full sun. Wet soils are fatal in the fall and winter. After a few years of growth the small biannual tuber-like rootstocks can be dug and separated in spring to produce more plants. The species was named after the keeper of the herbarium at Kew. In China there are many varieties described. Aconitum hemsleyanum 'Red Wine' has wine red colored flowers and dark green foliage.

The foliage is different from other Achillea commonly grown because it is linear shaped, instead of being dissected like most others and the margins are toothed. Plants grow 24-30 inches tall and form nice thick clumps with many bright white flowers. Full sun to light shade, and does very well in sandy soils.

This seed selection does not need vernalization to bloom and will flower nicely the first year. The foliage is a deep green color and plants make attractive pot subjects or used in the garden. Plants are heat and drought tolerant and adapted to a variety of soil situations, best in well draining soils. Moist soils with high nitrogen content may produce plants with weaker stems. Good cutting material for the table.

They produce very showy broad clusters or heads of flowers in apricot, cream, lavender, pink, purple, rose and white. The colors tend to be more on muted side and make nice addition to the summer garden if you need less than hard -- harsh colors. Plants will self seed were there is open ground and are long lived as long as you avoid a lot of fertilizer. They do well in dry soils, doing best in full sun but will grow in some light shade but they will be tall and lax. Rich soils produce taller plants that tend to flop. Plants grow fast and form a nice large clump the second year. Blooms late June-August. Long lived perennials that can be divided every few years, so keep the colors you like best and discard any that you do not prefer. Cut back heavkly after flowering, some reblooming occurs but this tidy ups the planting and the fresh new foliage is attractive. Does not like long hot muggy summers
