    Solidago glomerata grows 20 to 40 inches tall from a thick woody rootstock. Yellow-gold blooms late summer and fall with fewer but much larger flower heads than other goldenrods, looking almost like a small yellow aster flower. The thick basal rosettes of leaves are distinctive and the foliage persists even when the plants are in bloom, some claim the leaves have a skunky scent.

    Solidago glomerata is native to high elevation habitats in the mountains eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina.

        This species grows around 3 feet tall and has large showy plume-like heads of yellow flowers. It is one of the more attractive goldenrod species. The clumps can have ten or more upright stems. This species is sometimes confused with S. riddellii, which has folded and multinerved leaves. A worthy addition to a wild flower, wildlife garden, with moist but draining soils. Does well in normal garden soils and is attractive in the flower border too.

          Showy Goldenrod

          Tall upright plants with showy heads of bright yellow flowers in late summer. Grows best in a sunny location with moderately dry well-draining soils. Grows 3 to 4.5 feet tall, blooming late summer and fall with bright yellow flowers in dense heads that end the stems, the flowers are produced in upright heads instead of the wide or downward produced heads of many other Goldenrods. Plants are slowly spreading by way of short underground rhizomes, so in a garden setting may need to be contained or extra plants dug a removed every few years. Nice cut flower.
