    Adams Needle

    Pointed sword-like leaves with some what sharp points at the tips. The leaves have a whitish coating over a blue-green color and have white, curly threads (filaments: thus the species name) that adorn the sides of the leave. Plants produce greenish-white flowers on tall stems in down ward facing clusters. Grow in a well drained location were the soils stay dry over the winter. Once established they produce a deep tap root and plants are very drought tolerant. Plants produce medium-sized, evergreen, ornamental 'shrub' like displays. With their evergreen foliage they form a clump maturing at 2.5 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide, the flowering stems bolt up to 8 feet tall. Clumps have a slow rate of spread and after many years can form large colonies. The flowering stems grow 6 or more feet tall and the gray-green foliage has curly white threads. The flowers are creamy-white.

    Native to the Southeastern United States.
