Silver cast stems and leaves with clusters of mid blue globe shaped flowers. Plants grow 3 feet tall and produce many-branched stems. Blooming in July and August. Echinops ruthenicus 'Platinum Blue' is attractive before they bloom with their showy and interesting foliage - they got that thistle look that...that is so much fun. A good cut flower that makes a great dried flower too. The flowers are located in nice tight globes. Use in full sun in well draining soils. The seeds are large and easy to sow, and the seedling can be planted out into the landscape after 4 to 6 weeks of growth. .
The species is native from Austria and Bulgaria to Central and southern Russia. Cover seeds lightly and use F 70, germination in 10-16 days.
