Lobelia fulgens 'Queen Victoria'
Bronze Leaf Cardinal Flower Campanulaceae
Bright, showy red-orange colored flowers on dark tinted stems with mahogany-red to bronze colored leaves. Showy in flower and attractive even when not blooming. A hybrid with a less hardy south American species. Plants grow 3 to 5 feet tall and need about 3 feet in width. Best in moist soils in full sun to part shade. Blooms late summer and fall. Long days promote flower development. Keep light levels high. Long day blooming, with 14-16 hours of sunlight needed for best flowering. Short days promote good vegetative growth. Showy large spikes with large scarlet flowers and bronze colored foliage.
In the north keep dry over winter and in the early part of spring and give some winter cover or store the plants inside in a cool place over winter.
