Penstemon barbatus coccineus 'Scarlet'
Tall plants from 2 to 4.5 feet, with attractive tubular - bell shaped scarlet colored flowers. Loved by Hummingbirds for its numerous flowers that are well spaced from each other on long branched stems. The multi stemmed clumps have medium green smooth leaves. Sunny borders, rock gardens and naturalized grassy areas. Attractive in the garden and drought tolerant. Avoid rich soils which can promote heavy growth at the expense of flower production. In the south plants form evergreen dense ground covering clumps.
Sow seeds at 45-60F, germination in three to five weeks. Higher temperatures tend to delay germination. If no results move to 32-39F for five weeks.
