'Cow Parsley' or 'Wild Chervil' A very attractive plant with dark purple-bronze to reddish-purple-bronze foliage. The foliage grows from 8 to 18 inches tall and produces flowering stems from 2, up to 3 feet tall. The flowers are small, white in color and begin blooming in June. The flowers are produced on much branched umbels (like a carrot). Nice thick bushy growing plants with foliage that looks much like a Cimicifuga. This plant has a nice dark color for the garden to offset white Hosta. Plants can grow up to 2.5 feet wide. Open shade to sun. Likes a rich, moisture retentive soil. This is an annual to biennial to short lived perennial and were happy will self sow. The green form is a weed in the pacific states. In the spring the foliage starts out a dark green and by mid summer it has developed its rich dark color. If you do not allow plants to flower and set seed, this will encourage plants to be more perennial. 10 percent or so of seedlings will be the all green form-these should be culled out and thrown away. Collect and save seeds from the best colored forms. Native from Europe and western Asia. Zones 3-8. Germinates in 1-3 months at 70°F after 5 weeks in the fridge. Use 30 days at 68ºF, 6 weeks at 32-39ºF, move to 53-60ºF for germination. Or sow out side in the fall for germination in the spring. Cannot be sent to the state of Washington. 40 seeds.
