Plants grow 3 to 4 feet tall and have small creamy white flowers in large feathery plumes over Astilbe-like foliage. Flowering in late spring/early summer. Use in moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade. This selection is a hybrid between A. diocus and A. sinensis and very often has a light bronze cast to the foliage. Zones 2-9. Surface sow at 65ºF, if no germination in 4 weeks, move to the fridge for three to five weeks, then back to F 65. Germination is spread out over many weeks. Or sow and keep at 50-60F, germination over a ten week period.

'Dwarf Goats Beard' Rosaceae:

Nice thick clumps that grow 10 inches tall and mounds 18 inches wide with white flowers that look like small Astilbe, The flowers are produced in abundance then dry to a reddish tint in late summer. These plants are great for their foliage texture which is like a soft fern. Long lived in moister retentive soils that are well draining but tolerant of dry soils were flower production will be less. Part shade. Blooms the third year.

Zones 4-9.

  Aruncus dioicus
Code: AR09-A2
Price: $1.65

Quantity in Basket: none

Tall creamy-white colored heads of flowers in early summer. Best in moist well drained soils in open shade with intermitted sun. Attractive yellow- green foliage, remove old flowers after blooming to tidy up clumps. Blooms from 4 to 7 feet tall, nice as a tall display in a shade garden. Plants look somewhat like a large Astilbe, with similar looking compound leaves and spiky heads of flowers, better blooming in soils that are not always moist. When done blooming the flowers spikes take on a dry withered look that is not near as appealing as the green heads of Astilbe though.

Zones 4-9. Native from Eastern USA were it is found growing in bluffs, wooded slopes, rocky and moist woodlands and along ravines.

300 seeds.
