'Camas Lily' or 'Indian Hyacinth' or 'Black Camas' or 'Small Camas' (kuh-MAS-ee-uh: KWA-mash) Liliaceae:

Light blue colored flowers on tall stems, grows 20 to 36 inches tall. The flowers are star shaped with long, thin tepals. Blooms late spring and early summer- bulb forming species that is drought tolerant once established. After blooming and seed set, plants go summer dormant. Plants will bloom the second or third year after germination. Were happy this species will self seed.

Zones 4-8. Native from moist meadows and other open grassy locations west of the Rockies. Sow at 32-39ºF, germination spread-out, often over many months. Or sow in the fall for spring germination.

'Leichtlin’s Camass'

A spring blooming, bulbous plant with white colored flowers for moisture retentive soils. The star-shaped flowers are produced in terminal racemes and the bottom flowers open first. The flowering stems grow 2 to 4 feet tall. Best when grown in moist, fertile, acidic, humusy soils in full sun to part shade. Does best in full sun. Takes three years of growth before flowering.
