'Taurus Cerastium' or 'Boreal Chickweed' or 'Mouse-Eared Chickweed'

White flowers over soft white woolly foliage, grows 6' tall and does well even in poor soils like sand. Plants do not like hot humid areas. This species is more compact than tomentosum and the flowers are a bit larger. The flowers are grouped into 3 or five flowers per cyme. Like C. tomentosum in habit and uses but with larger leaves and flowers.

Zones 4-10. Native from the mountains of Asia Minor and naturalized in parts of Maine and New York. Sow on the surface at 70ºF, light needed for best germination. 5-15 days.

'Alpine Chickweed'

Silver colored leaves are coated with a whool coating of hairs. Star shaped, five petalled white flowers are nothed in middle. 'Starry Cerastium' or 'field mouse-ear chickweed' or 'Large-flowered Meadow Chickweed'

Plants grow into mats, 6 to 9 inches tall with bright white flowers almost 3/4 inches wide( the largest flowering of the Cerastiums) Plants bloom from April through early summer. The creeping stems have narrow leaves. Plants do best in average to dry soils and like rocky soils. Plant in full sun to bright open shade. Zone 4-9. Native from most of North America. Sow on the surface at 70ºF, light needed for best germination. 5-15 days. If no germination after three weeks move to 32-39F for four weeks.

{Cerastium tomentosum}

Short, dense clumps of silver gray leaves and many white flowers with yellow centers produced on branched stems a few inches above the foliage. Plants grow 3-4 inches tall and a foot or so wide with a carpeting effect. Blooming in summer, they are nice as an edging or rock garden subject.

White tomentose perennial, growing 5 inches tall with relatively large white flowers. Grow in a sunny location that is dry and well drained - especially in the winter. Best in poor, rocky soils were plants will form a carpet. Use in rock crevices or the alpine house.
