'Black Cohosh'

Summer (mid July and August) blooming plants. Attractive clumps with tall flowering stems reaching 4 to 5 feet tall. Plants will not bloom until the third year after germination but well worth the time invested in them-long lived clumps that can be divided every few years. A worthwhile species for thew open shade garden giving some height. Plants with attractive foliage mixes well with other large woodland species.

This seed produces a wide mix of different foliage colors from dark green to dark purple. Most will be on the greener side with purplish tinting with a number of darker selections too. Grow in moisture retentive soils in open shade to part sun. Dry soils produce weaker plants and good soils high in organic matter produces nice dense clumps with many stems in about 6 years. Grows 5 to 6.5 feet tall and blooms late summer and fall.

Zones 4-8. Start off with 16 weeks at 68-75ºF, move to 25-35º indefinitely, germination is spread out over two years. Best if moved out side during winter for the cold period. Cimicifuga along with most other woodland shade plants are good subjects for sowing in a seed box or bed outside and moved when plants are large enough to transplant.

Seed fron Russia, blooms August and September. Plants grow 3 to 4 feet tall with spikes of white flowers. The stems are often tinted white with small hairs.

Plants grow 3 to 5 feet tall with white flowers and yellowish tinted stamens - sometimes to often the flowers are tinted greenish. The branched flowering stems bloom in mid to late summer. Attractive foliage plant forthe shade garden , in bloom for about three weeks.

Zones 4-8. Native from Siberia (southeastern regions) and Mongolia were it is found growing in open to dense Forests, glades and meadows.

Plants grow 4 to 6 feet tall. Nice tall plants for the shade garden, best in cool, moisture retentive soils that are well draining. Very nice foliage clumps in the summer - blooming late summer with tall spikes of scented white colored flowers.

Start off with 16 weeks at 68-75ºF, move to 32-39º indefinitely, germination is spread out over two years. Or use Sow at 60-76ºF for 6 weeks then move to 24-39ºF for 8 weeks. After move to 45-55ºF. If no germination in 6 weeks, repeat the cycle from the beginning.
