'Paper Plant' or 'Paper Reed' Cyperaceae:

This is a large plant and it needs space to grow into the majestic displays that make it famous, in order to be best appreciated. when grown well it is 13 to 16 feet tall. The newly formed rhizomes are covered by red-brown, papery, triangular shaped scales. Place along the shores of lakes, ponds, and slow moving waterways. The "feather-duster" like flowering heads make ideal nesting sites for birds. This is a spreading plant, that can be contained if grown in a large pot that is submerged under water. On established plants the root stocks can be divided in spring and early summer. A striking accent plant. The plants can be grown indoors, provided they are abundantly watered and given a bright location (does not need direct sunlight).

Zones 9-11. Native to the lakes and rivers of northern Africa.

50 seeds.
