	'Eryngo' or 'False Purple Thistle' (er-RIN-jee-um: lev-en-WER-thee-eye) Apiaceae: This annual species produces an excellent purple display in late summer and early fall. Prickly-leaved plants grow one to three feet tall. They have gray-green colored deeply lobed foliage, which later has a purple tint to it. The flowers are small, but clustered into small upright heads with spiny bracts. Good cut flower subject and nice dried, if one is careful harvesting. 	'Flat Sea Holly' (e-RINJ-ee-um: PLANE-um) Grows 2.5 to 3.5 feet tall and 18 inches wide but the tops are loaded with the blue prickly flowers and when grown well in groups of three or five plants-spaced out about 12 inches apart -- they form a cloud of blue flowers in mid summer. This large plant can be used were you need something for a dry, sunny location. The flowers can be dried for use in arrangements. They prefer a sandy, well-drained soil with a good amount of organic material. Grow in full sun, but will flower well in some shade -- were they may need a stake because the plants become tall and the stems lax. The Heart-shaped basal leaves are more or less evergreen, with a set of basal leaves in the spring that gives rise to a long stem with few leaves on it at the top. 	'Mexican Sea Holly' Apiaceae: Grown for its very attractive shaped foliage. First introduced under the name Eryngium umbellifera. Typical growinf conditions for this genus, plants have deep taproots and like deep gravely soils in full sun and on the dry side. The basal rosets of foliage look like some type of tropical fern, the flowers are not anything special but the bract leaves are fascinating. The flowers are greenish-white and contained in small clusters on upright stems that grow 15-19 inches tall. Plants have a lot of nice thorns, so best to look at them and not touch. If you like thistles and other attractive thorny plants, this is one to give a try. 25 seeds.

	'Rattlesnake master' or 'Button Snakeroot' or 'Button Eryngo' or 'Tall Rattlesnake Master' Apiaceae: This is a very different but appealing accent plant that will grow well in difficult soils that are dry and hot. This species is a native of the central and eastern USA, where they are found in dry prairie eco-systems. The flowering heads look somewhat like Echinops ritro, but with a silver-white tinted blue color instead, the flowers age to an all silver white. The yucca-like foliage is long and thin and adds much to the over all presentation of the plants in the land scape. Best planted in groups of three with plenty of space between groups. Plants can grow from 3 to 5 feet tall and 12 to 24 inches wide, in moist overly rich soils they may need staking for the first year or two of blooming. Flowering occurs in July and August. E. yuccifolium is found throughout the eastern United States west to the Great Plains, but is rare in many localities - its listed as threatened in Michigan and Ohio. The species name refers to the long, narrow leaves that look like yucca leaves. Zones (3)4-8. Seeds respond best to cold moist stratification for three to five months. First Use 2-4 weeks at 68ºF, if no germination then move for 4-6 weeks to 25-39ºF, after move to 53-60ºF for germination. 30 seeds.
