Long white trumpets like an Easter Lily, this species has maroon shading on the outer sides of the trumpets. Will bloom the first year with a early sowing. Plants grow up to 7 feet tall. Scented. flowers on long stems that have long, thin grassy leaves. Generally easy to grow in full sun in well draining soils that hold some moisture in the summer but are dry in the winter. Plants blooming late summer.

Here is a dwarf short growing lily with large trumpet shaped flowers that are shaped like easter-lily. The flowers are white with maroon outsides. Plants grow around 16 inches tall with stems that form crowded mounds of thin leaves. If started early will flower the first year.

'Martagon Lily' or 'Common Turk's Cap Lily' (lil-EE-um: mart-UH-gon) Liliaceae:

Plants like a humus enriched soil that is well draining and holds some moisture but is never wet. Takes a good amount of shade and can be grown in full sun too as long its not hot and dry in the spring. The tall stems grow 3 to 5 feet tall and have very fragrant, pure white flowers that are strongly reflexed. They have the classic Turk's-Cap type blossoms with 20-30 per stem in a cascading pyramidal shape. Easy to grow plants once established. They look nice coming up out a collection of Hosta or planted in drifts of three across the land scape. These seeds will produce plants with white flowers that especially stand out in the shade garden. Use in moist but well drained soils.

'Nepal Lily' (LIL-ee-um: nap-ahl-EN-see)

Here is an attractive lily with a scneted flowers. the scent is variable called pleasant or unpleasant, depending on who is doing the smelling. Grows around 30 inches tall and has 3 to 5 flowers per stem. The flowers are large and heavy, trumpet shaped with bent back tips. The flowers are yellow-gold to greenish-white and the throats are dark speckled to solidly dark maroon. This species is not the easiest lily to grow: it needs a rich soil that has moisture and part shade, like other lilies that grow in moist soils, it has stolons the move the bulbs around as it adjusts its growing location to suit its needs. Give it a location with rich, moisture retentive organic soils that are not wet but do not dry out during the growing season. the bulbs are hardy to zone 5 but they must be dry in the fall and winter. Some people value this attractive lily enough that they dig the plants out in the fall and store the bulbs in dry peat-moss over winter and replant in spring.

'Panther Lily or 'Leopard Lily'

This species likes damp areas with plants growing 4 to 7 feet tall. The flowers are turks-cap shaped, red-orange colored, with numerous brown spots. Flowering in July, use in moisture retentive soils in full sun to part shade.

'Philippine Lily'

A tall plant often over 6 feet, with large, trumpet shaped pure white colored flowers. Plants blooming late summer into late fall with 6 or more flowers per stem. The flowers tend to face downward and are scented. Best in full sun, but will grow in some shade if given support. Self seeds and seedlings look like thick grass blades the first year.

Zones 10-11. Others zones when grown in a large pot and/ or stored frost free over the winter.

Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Thinly cover and use 38 to 50F with germination spread-out over a few months. Best germination when soils are cool instead of warm.

'Regal lily' or 'Kings Liliy'

Plants have trumpet-shaped flowers held out horizontally at the top of the stems in clusters of 2-20. The flowers are 6 to 7 inches long with the white petals on the inside with a yellow base and pink to purple tinted on the outside. In a few years this seed will produce plants with wide, oval, wine red bulbs up to 5 inches wide. Best used in the ornamental garden. were they have no special requirements regarding soil type if it is rich and well draining in the fall and winter. 'Washington Lily' or 'Shasta Lily' or 'Mt. Hood Lily'

Here is a lily native to the Cascade Range and Sierra Nevada of western North America. It is named after Martha Washington. It grows up to 5.5 feet tall, and with large fragrant white or pinkish colored flowers with purplish spots on the throats. The tepals are 6 to 9 cm long and not strongly reflexed. This fragrant species is native from California and Oregon. Grow in a sunny location in soils that are on the dry side and well draining.
