'Russian Sage'

A semi-woody perennial with many small, bright sky blue flowers, over silver-gray foliage with a sage scent. Grow in full sun in well draining soils. Plants grow 3 to 5 feet tall and are long blooming, from mid to late summer. In late fall or early spring cut back the woody stems about 12 to 18 inches above ground. Plants best in well draining soils in full sun - once established they are drought tolerant.

Zones 4-9. Germination is spread out over many weeks at 50-60ºF, erratic germination. 30 to 120 days, keep seed trays for at least 15 months. Keep moist but not wet. Old seed germinates in 30-40 days.

This sub-shrub has long stems covered with, deep sky-blue flowers in spike-like terminal inflorescence. Contrasting silvery green foliage accents the blue color. Plants are heat and drought tolerant and good garden plant subjects for hot sunny locations.

Zones 5-7, 4 with winter protection. Seed is primed for easer germination. Will flower the first year with an early sowing and grow 20-32 inches tall. Mature plants grow taller.
