Code: PO26-A6
Price: $2.45

'Jacob's Ladders'

Plants grow 12 to 15 inches tall and produce a large number of medium violet to soft blue flowers. A good repeat bloomer if kept dead headed. Large attractive leaves with many rows of leaflets and an open showy display of flowers starting in late spring. The flowers are good sized and somewhat cup shaped but what makes this different from many of the other 'Jacob's Ladders' is that the flowers are produced in bushy masses just above the foliage instead of being on tall spikes. Use in light, open shade or better yet, in half day sun, more sun in the north. Plant in well draining, moisture retentive soils. Attractive in the spring. Divide every three years. A very nice selection, showy in the garden over many weeks.

Zones (3)4-8. Lightly cover seeds and use F 68, germination is spread out over a few weeks and starts in 10-25 days after sowing and can be spread-out over a number of weeks.

50 seeds.

  Polemonium caeruleum 'Album' Lot A6

'Jacob's Ladder' or 'Greek Valerian'

This selection produces white flowers above lacy fern like foliage. The flowers have protruding yellow ended stamens. Grow in sun or part shade. Likes cool moist soils but well drained, avoid wet soggy and hot dry soils. Blooms late spring. Plants do best in light shade but will grow in more shade or in full sun if provided a moist soil. I have had good success in a dry lightly shaded locations-but plants start to look rough about mid summer-so I cut them down with the lawn mower and they will start to bloom again in a few weeks. Can bloom from mid spring till late summer if kept dead headed. This is the easiest species to grow and seeds germinate in 2 to 4 weeks.

Zones 3-8. Native from much of the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere. Including Europe, Asia and North America were they are found at the margins of woods and swamps, by streams and in grassy fields. Lightly cover seeds and use F 68, germination is spread out over a few weeks and starts in 10-25 days after sowing and can be spread-out over a few weeks.
