The pink flowers are small and pearl-like, but crowded into club like spikes on 24 to 30 inch tall stems. Best in moist soils were it spreads out to form wide clumps. For full sun to light shade, long lived, forming woody like underground stems that remind me of Fern roots. The foliage is semi-evergreen and remains green over much of the winter, even here in Minnesota, in exposed locations it will 'freeze off' or if the plants become very dry in summer they will go dormant and most of there leaves will yellow and disappear, with new growth when the plants receive enough water again. Blooming period is from Early to late summer. This species is more tolerant of drier soils than most of the others, doing well in most any garden soil that does not bake dry in the summer.

Zones 4-9. Start with 66-77ºF for 4 weeks, move to 29-39ºF for 6 weeks,.Then move to45-55ºF for germination. Native from Northern Europe and Western Asia.
