These herbaceous plants are pest-free and normally undemanding and grow best in full sun in
poor dry soils. They are long flowering with strawberry-like pleated leaves. The flowers are shallow saucer-shaped and come in a number of diffrent colors ranging from pale
white, yellow, pink to luxurious deep red. Flowering from the end of May until the end of August.
There are a number of species and many are worthy of a place in the landscape. The nepalensis
cultivars are generally the largest of the herbaceous potentillas. P. nepalensis 'Roxana' has a
coppery tinge to its pink flowers.
Potentillas should have as much sun as you can give them and do best in poor, well-drained soils. P. atrosanguinea though, prefers good soil and a cooler position than other potentillas.
