The species name refers to the 'Elder' like leaves. Astilbe like white-cream colored flowers in plumes that look great with other large shade lovers. Plants are 30 inches tall when in bloom over large leaves, flowering in July.

Zone 4-8.Surface sow seeds and keep at 65-75F, germination starts in 10 days and can be spread out over many months. Keep medium moist at all times.

Composed of hybrids between aesculifolia, herici and pinnata. A nice wide mix of distinctive colored leaves from light to dark green and light to dark bronze, with a mix of assorted colors of flowers from whites, roses and yellows. A nice way to start a varied collection of these open shade plants. Plants grow 2 to 4 feet tall. For the best growth and looking plants give them a moist but well draining location.
