Plants have light blue pin-cushion like flowers (tinted pinkish) on 15 to 25 inch tall stems. The flowers are held up above attractive pinnatifid foliage (divided like a fern leaf) Zones 6-8. But should be hardy to zone 4 with some light cover over the winter. Lightly cover seeds, and keep at F65-70. Germination in 2-4 weeks.

Large, lavender blue colored flowers, a very outstanding tall stemmed flower that is great for cut flowers or in the boarder. Grows 20 inches tall. Long lived plants will bloom the second year. Grow in light sandy loam soils under dry, well-draining conditions with a neutral pH in full sun. Wet, poorly drained soils will cause root rot, especially over the winter. Best performance in areas with long cool summers were plants will bloom for much of the summer. Some what intolerant of high heat and humidity, were plants will bloom over a shorter period of time in late spring. Under long periods of high heat and humidity plants can 'give-up'.

Zones 4-8. A choice selection. Germination: 60-70 F in 2 weeks. Needs light for good germination, so surface sow.

An attractive species that grows into dwarf tufts of silvery colored, long grass like leaves that are hairy. Plants produce flower heads of sky blue to pinkish blue colored flowers in typical Scabiosa fashion that are up to 1 inch wide. Flowering stems reach 8 to 15 inches tall. Long blooming in mid to late summer. Nice for rock walls. 2n=18

The small blue pincushion-like flowers with a thimble shaped center cones, bloom from June through August into late September. The foliage grows 2 inches or so tall and the flowering stems reach 8 to 15 inches tall. The flowers are produced on wide branching stems that are 12 inches or so across. The leaves are both, few lobed and deeply cut. Plants will self seed lighly over open ground. A worthwhile plant to grow in the rock garden or front of the boarder- taking a well drained - open soil and full sun. 2n=16

Perennial with reddish-purplish blue flowers that are 2 to 5 inches wide. The centers are dome-shaped and plants bloom from late spring into late summer. Height and width to 12 to 20 inches, upper leaves deeply cut. Use in full sun to partial shade, well-drainage soils. The foliage has a felt grayish tint to it. Plants are visited by butterflies and Syrphidae.

'Cream Scabiosa'

Plants grow 24 to 36 inches tall with 1 inch double looking flowers of soft medium yellow. Attractive lacy foliage with tall upright stems that have many flowers produced over a few months in late summer and fall. The flowers are on tall wiry stems and plants keep on blooming even after a frost. Plant in full sun to part shade in well drained soils. Fun and long blooming from mid summer till hard frost. Here in Minnesota it's the last plant to keep blooming in the year, lasting well past many solid frosts. Best display when planted in groups of three or five plants spaced out about 10 inches apart. Does well in rock or brick cracks. Drought tolerant.
