	[Mimosa quadrivalvis] or [Mimosa nuttallii] 'Sensitive Briar' or 'Nuttall's Sensitive-briar' or 'Bashful Briar' Perennial plants with branched stems that arch or are lax growing. The stems are 3 feet long with sharp hooked thorns. Leaves are alternately arranged on the stems and have long petioles. The foliage has many bipinnate arranged leaflets. The leaflets are sensitive to touch and close-up on contact. This species blooms from May into September. The flowers are grouped into round flower heads composed of many pinkish flowers with yellow stamens. Interesting plants for a wild flower garden, the flowers are attractive and the sensitive foliage is a curiosity. The thorns are however mean and once entangled are tenacious in their grip. Grow in full sun to part shade in good soils that are well draining. Like most plants with thorns, plants are a valuable food source for wildlife. Zones 3-9 Native from Central USA.
