'Wild Pink' or 'Carolina Catchfly' or 'Pennsylvania Catchfly'

Plants form neat mounds of foliage surrounded by light to bright red-pink flowers. Grows 4 to 6 inches tall. The flowers are made up of five petals that each have a small notch and are wedge shaped-looking somewhat like a Lychnis. The flowers are 1 inch wide. Plants are short lived but easy to raise from seed-Does well on dry soils. Native to Eastern USA. were they are found along dry stream beds, rock outcroppings and on sandy or rocky soils. Blooming in April to June.

The large star shaped flowers have deeply cut petals, that are a vivid scarlet-orange in colour. The finely cut foliage is attractive too. Grows about 2.5 feet tall. Dark pink to reddish pink flowers on 24 to 30 inch tall stems. The flowers are crowded into a rounded head like a phlox. Plants are self sowing biennials. Plants bloom in late June and July. 'Royal Catchfly' Caryophyllaceae

Large, bright red flowers. Best grown in average, to dry soils that are well-draining in full sun to part shade. Prefers a sandy or gravelly soil, and looks nice on a rock wall. Excellent drainage required for the best results. A clump-forming perennial growing 3 to 4 feet tall with up-right stems of oppositely paired, entire leaves and enlarged nodes. The flowers are in Small clusters and have 5 petals in a rich scarlet red color. The 2 inch wide flowers are produced in summer. Best results is part shade in well draining soils.

Zones (3)5-8. Native from Eastern USA were it is found in rocky prairies, rocky open woods, thickets, borders of rocky glades and along roadsides. 3-4 weeks at 65-75ºF. Surface sow seeds, light needed for best results., if no germination., 2-4 weeks at 30-39ºF, then 65-75ºF.

Soft medium pink colored flowers a top round bladder-like balloons. The flowers are produced over cushion like foliage with wiry stems and thin silver hued leaves. Plants flower at 4 to 6 inches. This selection has a prostrate habit with a width of 8 inches. A rock garden treasure. Many flowers produced over many weeks. Very nice in pots were the stems slightly trail down the sides. Goes summer dormant later but foliage is semi-evergreen. Will flower well the first year from an early sowing. Seeds are good sized and the seedlings fast growing and plants are drought tolerant. An easily grown selection from seed. Grow in full sun in moist but well draining soils.
