Large stately plums of near white flowers tinted green. Flowering occurs sporadically over a five to ten year period. Plants have large rounded leaves rising from a deep tap root, and the foliage is the main attraction for me. Plants can flower at a height of well over five feet. Grow in full sun to part shade, in moisture retentive soils. Start seedling off in bright open shade for best growth. A weed in overly grazed locations in high elevations in Eurasia, because of its toxicity when eaten by sheep and cows.

Zones 5-8. This species is native from Japan in Asia, north through Russia to Northern and central Europe to Portugal. Start with 2-4 weeks at 68F, then 6-9 weeks at 28-39, after move to 50-60F for germination. Or sow in the fall and keep outside for germination in the spring.

50 seeds.
