'Lilyturf' or 'Monkey Grass' (lir-RYE-oh-pee: mus-KAR-ee) Ruscaceae:
Plants grow 6 to 10 inches tall with grassy, thin, flat foliage with spiky flower clusters just above the foliage. The flowers are lavender blue and this selection produces a showy edging in part shade. Slowly spreading clumps that are not invasive like Liriope spicata. This species has upright, showy flower spikes with tiered whorls of lavender-blue flowers, that are some-what like narrow grape hyacinth flowers. Evergreen foliage in the south, but the foliage is damaged by cold winters in the north - so looks best in the north with some spring clean up, mowing seems to work.
Zones 5-10.
