'Desert marigold'
Plants with 1 to 2 inch wide yellow flowers on stems that grow 12 to 25 inches long but have a semi upright habit. Plants grow to be 2 feet or so wide. Drought tolerant once established. A short lived perennial that lives in the deserts of Southwest North America south of Utah. The flowers look like yellow marigolds above light green, marigold looking foliage. Needs good drainage and no organic mulch, plants tend to die under moist conditions. Best in light sandy-loam soils, with moderate fertility, low in nitrogen and full hot sun. In areas that receive a lot of rain -- give the plants a large rock to grow their roots under.
Zones 7-10.
