'Pink Knotweed' or 'Pinkhead Smartweed' (pol-LIG-go-num: kap-ih-TAY-tum) POLYGONACEAE:
A low growing, carpeting species that stays under 6 inches tall. In mild climates the leaves are evergreen. The foliage is marked with darker burgundy tinted chevrons and the stems are a reddish color. Native from China to the Himalayas. The flowers are tiny pink balls clustered in to small clubs. In zones 8-9 plants self seed readily. Grow as an annual ground-cover or in containers and baskets.
