Love-in-a-mist or Yellow Fennel Flower (ny-JELL-luh: or-ee-en-TAY-liss) Ranunculaceae:
Hardy annuals. This species has lacy, feathery foliage, and small yellow flowers followed by very attractive seed pods. Plants grow 18-22 inches tall and they are drought-tolerant with regularly watering producing the best plants, but don’t overwater (keep the ground moist) allow the ground to dry well between watering.
Self-sows freely, so deadhead if you do not want volunteer seedlings the next year.
The seed pods are good for drying and useful in complex flower or dry arrangements. An unusual green dried seed pod with a uniquely fluted look. Plants are best sown in place of growth, since they resent root disturbance.
Harvest when pods reach their maximum size and hang upside down in a dry, dark, open, airy place.
