'Dwarf Red Plains Coreopsis'

Reddish-maroon flowers on this selection that is a prolific bloomer. Plants grow 12-18 inches tall. Mixes well with grasses and plants readily reseed. Birds and butterflies also like this plant: the butterflies for the flowers and the birds for the seeds. Long blooming period from May to August, plants are more or less annuals but self seed. Coreopsis grow best in any fertile, garden soil that is well drained and has a full exposure to the sun. Sow indoors at 70-degree temperature, 4 to 6 weeks before it is safe to plant outside. Seeds may also be sown directly where they are to grow when the soil is warm, cover lightly. Good subjects for large pots and cut flowers for small diplays. The attracrtive lacy foliage and large dark flowers mix well with other large pot plants. Give them a hair cut to promote shorter and bushy plants.

Zones 3-10.
