'Peruvian Lily' (Ahl-srurm-E-ree-a: lig-too):

Plants grow 24 to 36 inches tall. This seed will give a mix of colors including apricot, melon to salmon-pink, cerise and many different reds from light too deep. The colors are supposed to be brighter than the other mix offered. This selection produces some great cut flowers for vases. Plants become dense and spreading when established in the landscape, they can also be grown as a pot plant in a cool green house or sun room in colder climates. 'Peruvian Lily' will do best in a sunny exposure in cooler locations or part shade where it is hot. They should be given deep, humus rich, moisture retentive soils that have good drainage. Alstroemerias are showy of perennials, with large spectacular, brightly streaked flowers. Very nice when planted in groups along a path or grouped in a sheltered sunny border. They have a long flowering period throughout summer. In colder regions plant them at the base of a south facing wall. Plants will bloom the second or third year after sowing but if grown well, some blooming the first year.

Zones 7-10

Soak seed in warm water for 3 days, changing the water once a day with fresh warm water. Germination in 2-30 weeks at F 55. Not difficult to grow from seed, but the seeds can take a while to start germination. Soaking in hot water for 24 hours helps. Use a small glass with hot tap water, drop the seeds in and allow the water to cool, replace the water every 8 hours with fresh hot water.
