Showy Tick Trefoil
This species is in the pea family, and like many members of that family it can improve the soil by adding nitrogen from bacteria that live in its roots. Plants have numerous branches that are covered with bright pink/purple pea-like flowers. It blooms in the summer to early fall, growing up to five feet tall. The deep taproot produced, allows the plant handle drought and summer dry soils. Best used in a wildflower or prairie garden since it can self seed and form large groupings of plants on open ground. A large grouping is very attractive when in bloom. Long blooming, will bloom the secound or third year.
