Named after a Vienna botanist, Joseph knapp. Plants grow 18' tall and have rounded, small yellow flowers that have notched petals. Plants do well in the garden mixed in here and there in small clumps. This species does well in dryer soils. 'Yellow Harmony' is more upright growing, and forms a small looking shrub with semi-woody stems giving rise to many branches and a good number of flowers in clusters at the ends of the branches. This being a yellow flowering Dianthus, makes it diffrent from all the others. This selection has more uniform up right habit, larger flowers and bright color. Native from Yugoslavia.
Zones 3-9. Surface sow seeds and use 70 F, germination in 14 to 18 days. Plants will start to bloom in 12-15 weeks from sowing.
50 seeds.
