(Dee-AN-thus) CARYOPHYLLACEAE. Nice thick clumps, that form a dense mound of deep green needle or more grass like leaves with tight heads of deep crimson/purple-red (rose-red) flowers. Plants bloom from late spring to mid/late summer. A choice plant for the border or dry rock-garden, will generate much interest. Plants grow one foot tall and 6 inches wide. Native form Turkey. There are shorter forms possibly included too. Use in full sun to light shade on well drained soils that are neutral to alkaline in pH. Plants grow about 6 to 8 inches tall and form a clump12 inches wide. With some only growing 2 inches tall and 4 inches wide. Zones 4-7. In the north protect with a dry winter mulch. 40 seeds.
