'Seaside Daisy' or 'Beach Aster' or 'Beach Fleabane' (er-IJ-er-on: GLAW-kus) Asteraceae:
This species is a low growing perennial daisy of beaches from central California to southern Oregon. Leaves are somewhat thick and fleshy. The flowers are round and daisy-like with large yellow centers and violet-blue in color. Good sized flowers on these 8 to 10 inch tall growing plants, that does very well in a sand bed. Plants should be grown in well drained soils that are rich and dry over the winter. Plants will grow along seashores, in sand and serpentine soils and can take some seasonal flooding. Nice ground cover, with attractive flowers. Grow in full sun to part shade.
