'Eryngo' or 'False Purple Thistle' (er-RIN-jee-um: lev-en-WER-thee-eye) Apiaceae:
This annual species produces an excellent
purple display in late summer and early fall. Prickly-leaved plants grow one to three feet tall. They have gray-green colored
deeply lobed foliage, which later has a purple tint to it. The flowers are small, but clustered into small upright heads with spiny bracts. Good cut flower subject and nice dried, if one is careful harvesting. Grow in sunny areas with good draining soils.
