'Cider Gum' or 'Gunnii' Myrtaceae:
Plants make attractive filler material in mixed bouquets, the foliage has a nice fragrance with a waxy blue-green color. The leaves are round and located in pairs around the stems. Cutting material is ready for harvesting in about three months after sowing. It is a very cold tolerant Eucalyptus, taking −14 °C, and even −20 °C for short periods. It is commonly used as an ornamental tree in the British Isles and in parts of Western Europe. Plants are fast-growing, and grow up to 37 m tall, typically growing 1.5 meters per year. The foliage shape changes as the tree matures; from the juvenile leaf form with the rounded leaves and waxy blue color, to a plant with foliage with a more elongated shape and a rich green color. The foliage can be kept at the juvenile stage with heavy pruning to maintain a shrub. It produces a sweet sap similar to maple syrup and the liquid ferments and resembles apple cider, thus the common name of cider gum.
Evergreen tree native from Tasmania.
