This is the wild species from the Rocky Mountains, a useful wild flower for gardens, boulevard plantings and any other sunny dry location. Brilliant colored, daisy-like flowers. Short-lived perennials but self sowing on open ground, likes any sunny location with good soil drainage and on the dry side, best blooming in low nitrogen soils.
Zones 3-10 as an annual, 8-10 as a short-lived perennial. For most, this is a reseeding annual that adds a lot of bright color to the landscape in late summer and fall. Plants grow 6 to 16 inches tall and make good cut flowers for a vase. Salt tolerant species but not tolerant of wet conditions.
Native from Virginia to Florida and westward to Colorado and New Mexico and extending south into Mexico. Germination in less than two weeks at 73ºF.
Surface sow seeds, light needed for best results.
