'Gazania' or 'Treasure Flower' (ga-ZA-nee-ah)
large flower heads 3-4 inches across, on long stems held above the leaves. Seed produces plants with solid colors of red, pink, orange, yellow, bronze or with contrasting dark central zones. The flowers close up at night and on cloudy days, they are held 8-10 inches above glossy foliage. Full sun and toleratent of hot, dry and windy locations. Nicely used as mass plantings in the borders, flower beds, edging, containers; dry or xeriphytic gardens; tolerate of some salt. Native from South Africa. Germination starts in about two weeks at 60- 68ºF, and is spread out over a few weeks. Cover seeds1/5inch deep- darkness helps with germination.
