'Star Gentian' or 'Rosette Gentian' or 'Cross Gentian' Gentianaceae:
This gentian species grows in drier soils than most of the others, doing well in rocky areas. The leaves are lance shaped and have a leathery texture with a medium green color. The flowers are located in clusters at the ends of the stems and they arise from axillary bracts along the stems, they are bell shaped and sky to dark blue in color. Blooming from midsummer to fall. Plants grow 8-15 inches tall and ten inches wide Use in full sun in a rock garden or at the front of a boarder. Native from eurasia were it is found on dry, rocky slopes.
Zones (3)5-8. Surface sow seeds and use 65-78F, germination in two or three weeks. If no Germination then move to 21-32F for four months and back to 55-78F.
