Very much like a bottle gentian, except with purple-violet to red-violet colored flowers and a more upright form. This species is native from South and Central Europe, were it is found growing in Alpine meadows. Zones 5-8. Surface sow seeds at 70ºF for 3 weeks, move to the fridgerater for 6-9 weeks, after words move to 55ºF for germination in 1-4 weeks, use bright light. Like most Gentiana species seeds respond to a long cold period and might take 2 years to germinate (two cold periods)
