'Bottle Brush Grass' Poaceae:
An attractive species that will grow nicly in light shade or full sun. The plants grow 3 to 4 feet tall and have whitish colored 'quil' like 'flowers' and seed heads, the name means 'hedgehog' in Greek and the flower/seed-heads look some what like the pointy spikes of a Hedghog. Well worth growing in the gardan used as a mass planting along a woods edgeor in the'native garden'. They tend to be short lived plants so allow to self seed. Plants will bloom the secound year in June and July with attractive seed heads that persist into the winter. Plants will also bloom the firdst year if the seeds are started inside in Early March.
Zones (4)5-8. Native to Eastern North America were it is found in open, mesic woodlands and tall grass prairies. Just cover seeds and use 65-75F, with germination spread-out over a few weeks to a few months, with germination starting in two weeks ( This old seed, so is quick to germinate - the last germination test produced 50+ percent germination in 10 days).
50 seeds.
