'Kankakee Mallow' or 'Kankakee Globe-Mallow' Malvaceae:
A very rare native north American Mallow with soft to medium pink colored flowers. Plants grow 3 to 5 feet tall and bloom most of the summer. Large leaves are lobed and maple-leaf likein shape. The leaves become smaller as the stems become taller. The over all effect is a spiky clump with larger leaves at the bottom and tapering off to a pointy spike at the top. Endangered species from Illinois. Kankakee Co. This will be one of those plants that are more common in cultivation than in the wild. Zones (4)5-7. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours, then place in a plastic bag with some moist (not wet) soil medium and store in the fridge for 5 weeks,after sow and cover seeds 1/4 inch deep and use 68-78f for germination in 1 to 3 weeks.
