'Blue Buttons' or 'Feild Scabiosa' Dipsacaceae:
Plants grow up to five feet tall and have violet blue scabious like flowers. Long blooming period. Plants are some that bushy and may tend to 'flop' but makes a very interesting display if you have a large area and need some large perennials to 'fill up' the landscape. Use along the back of the perennial border, were it might be helpful to supply a stake in windy locations. Or use around very large rocks and tall fences. I find them interesting mixed in with large shrubs were the plants will grow up and through the shrubs. Can be grown in any well draining soil but they do like a sandy deep soil. Native to Europe and naturalized over a larger range. Zone 5-9. Sow at 40-50 F, high temps retard germination. Germination is irregular, taking place over 1-15 weeks.
40 seeds.
