'Red Hot poker' or 'Torch lily' Asphodelaceae:
First year flowering selection in a mix of bright colors. The red, orange or yellow colored flowers are in crowded head-like spikes atop 32 inch (32 in = 81.3 cm) tall stems. Do not grow the plants too wet or too dry. Dry soils cause the flowers to dry up and wet soils quickly produce rotting roots. In summer Kniphofolia plants need water and should not be grown dry for best flowering. While dormant plants should be on the dry side. Plants are not tolerant of competition and do not handle being shaded by other plants. Grow in full sun, nice as a cut flower- best harvested as the first few rows of flowers open.
