'Maltese Cross' (lick-nis: chal-ce-DON-i-ka)
Plants grow three to four feet tall and have dense heads of bright scarlet flowers. One of the, if not the, brightest true red flowers, blooming in early to mid summer. Long lived-doing very well in a moist sandy loam soil in full sun to light shade. A classic garden plant that still commands attention. Germination in less than three weeks at 68ºF. Surface sow seeds, light needed for best results.
Zones 3-9. Native from Eastern Russia.
