'Golden Flax' or 'Yellow Flax' LINACEAE.
Golden yellow flowers on top of 6-9 inch tall stems. Nice plants for the rock garden or along a rocky pathway. This is the short form of this species, with 1inch wide, rounded flat-cup-shaped flowers. The species is native to xerothermic grassland communities in Europe. Plants produce semi-woody stems that after some new growth in spring they start to bloom late spring into early summer and have some flowers commonly until frost. Best grown in full sun in almost any soil, except wet soils. In partly shady areas the plants tend to flop over and in wet soil the roots rot away. Seed germination in 2 to 4 weeks at 65-75F degrees. Flowering starts the second season.
