'Sticky Phacelia' (fa-KEEL-ee-a: vis-KI-da) HYDROPHYLLACEAE. Bright gentian blue flowers with lighter blue or white centers. The flowers have white stamens that contrast well with the deep blue flowers. This species is an annual and will reseed its self when happy, grow in part shade in good soils that are moister retentive. Plants grow 1.5 to 2 feet tall but this selection is said to be shorter and more compact. The plants produce a good number of flowers that are interspersed down the stems. This species is becoming rare in the wild, most likely due to fire suppression in its native localities in California. The species name comes from the sticky globules of brown, viscid liquid on the ends of clear hairs covering the stems and foliage, with the name meaning 'sticky' A colorful addition to the garden for those that like rare and attractive plants.
